Trusting In God, Not Chariots: A Post-Election Reflection

Trusting In God, Not Chariots: A Post-Election Reflection

In the USA, we just concluded an extensive, divisive election season, and—there are winners and losers. Some people are feeling joy, while others feel disappointment. As followers of Christ, we are called to rise above these emotions and base our hope in something—or Someone—far more lasting.

Our hope is not found in a political leader or movement. Our role as believers is to be salt and light, interceding for the will of God to be done on Earth as it is in heaven. We’re not called to put our faith in political systems or outcomes. So, whether the election went your way or it did not, we neither despair nor gloat. Instead, we remain steady.

A scripture on my heart since the election result has been Psalm 20:7, which declares,

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord, our God.”

This verse speaks to a life of faith—a life built not on temporal, worldly power but on a steadfast trust in God.

Psalm 20 could have been composed by King David as a motivational song for his troops heading into battle. Chariots and horses, the cutting-edge military technology of the day, symbolized strength and power. Yet, the humility of David’s message was clear: no matter how impressive our resources seem, true victory and security can only come from God.

Today, chariots and horses might look like political victories or technological advances. These things have their place, but they are no substitute for being relationally rooted in God’s faithfulness.

Response and Application.
Building a relational history with God is why I advocate cultivating a lifestyle of worship grounded in daily trust in God’s power and presence. Worship is more than just ritual; it’s a habit of actively building faith that transcends circumstances.

As God’s people, we are citizens of a greater kingdom (Phil 3:20). He has made a covenant with us, promising, “I will be your God, and you will be my people” (Ex 6:7). His wisdom and love exceeds our understanding, far beyond the politics of the moment.

Where are you placing your trust today?

PRAYER:

As Paul urged in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, let us pray for ‘all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness’ Let’s lift our leaders up in prayer.

In God we trust!

MUSIC UPDATE: New studio recording begins in November!

Proverbs 13:12 says, 'A longing fulfilled is a tree of life.' After a long wait, I’m finally heading back into the studio to record a brand-new project, “No Matter What.”

At its core, this album is about resilience—holding on by faith in Christ to the hope we have in God through life’s most difficult trials—no matter what comes our way.

In a noisy age filled with generic content, my hope is to craft a meaningful musical work of art that encourages and inspires.

Many folks have responded positively to these songs live. A few titles include:

  • Keep the Faith, God Is In Control
  • With God All Things Are Possible
  • The Best Is Yet to Come
  • Whosoever (Dad’s song)

I’m thrilled to collaborate with a group of dear friends, both old and new—stellar studio musicians on drums, bass, keys, and guitars—who will help bring this vision to life. By God’s grace, we’re planning an old-school, live recording session in mid-November to capture the unique energy of everyone playing together.

I’d love for you to be part of this project!
